Microservices refactoring engagement

A staged advisory engagement that redraws service boundaries, cleans contracts, and sequences extraction without a big-bang rewrite.

Who this is for

Engineering managers and principal engineers who already know the current service map is wrong — shared databases, chatty sync calls, or domains that grew into each other — but cannot pause the product roadmap for a year-long rewrite.

What you receive

  • A current-state service and data-ownership map grounded in how code actually deploys today
  • Facilitated boundary workshops with your domain owners (typically two half-days)
  • A sequenced extraction or merge plan with risk notes, rollback expectations, and staffing assumptions
  • Contract and interface cleanup recommendations for the first two boundaries you will touch
  • A closing readout with your architects and delivery leads

What stays out of scope

We do not rewrite production code as part of this engagement. Implementation stays with your team or a delivery partner you already trust. We also do not run ongoing product management or hire decisions.

How the engagement runs

  1. Scoping call (45 minutes) — confirm pain points, access, and whether refactoring or performance work should come first.
  2. Discovery week — read repos, observability dashboards, incident notes, and prior architecture docs.
  3. Boundary workshops — redraw domains with the people who own them; capture disagreements in writing.
  4. Plan delivery — draft, review, and hand over the sequence with clear “do next / do later / do not do” sections.

Preparation we ask for

Read-only access to architecture diagrams, CI/CD layouts, and the top five incident postmortems from the last year. Name one internal sponsor who can gather the right people for workshops.

Provider

Led by a WebRidge senior advisor with prior experience extracting payment, inventory, and identity services in Australian commerce and logistics organisations. Junior shadowing may occur only when agreed in the brief.

Next step

Request a scoping call and mention “microservices refactoring” in the form. We will confirm whether a fixed package or day-rate engagement fits your constraints.
